Animals and Communicating - so important!

Who's this beauty??
Arabella relaxing ofcourse!
Wesley at the rescue centre - so glad he made it there! and even gladder he made it to Me!!

I have 2 lovely rescue rabbits living at home with me, Arabella (my bags inspiration) and Wesley. Arabella came from a rescue in Perthshire, Scotland and Wesley from The Rabbit and Guinea Pig Welfare http://www.rngp.org/index.shtml in Rugby, England. They live in my house, ofcourse, and have free range of everywhere all the time.

When we collected Arabella in 2005 she had been shut up in a hutch for 2 years! Isn't that shocking. It has taken here at least 2 more years to pad around the house without being afraid of noises or what was behind the door. Now she really has come out of her furry shell and she loves to explore. Particularly at breakfast time - she dashes over to peer inside the fridge with me - demanding that I give her a portion of greens. Her small demands are always met.

Wesley is happy at the moment keeping warm and sleeping unlmited safe hours on his fleeces. He stretches right out - on his side and his big lop ears fall over his face. He has many deep sleeps a day and is very contented to doze away. He has plenty of room and a basket of toys but at the moment he isn't showing too much interest in them. He is just over 2 now and was found on a disused railway line covered in urine and blood. he has many cuts and nicks on his ears and when we took him home it took a few months for him to trust me to gently caress his ears and forehead.
Whenever I am going out, even for 5 minutes, I always let both of them know when I will be back, and what I plan to do.

A few years ago at my grans the TV was on during the day. Which is pretty rare, but it must have been fate because the daytime show was on - can't remember what one it was, but they had this lady on who could 'talk' to the animals. Well, I have always been fascinated by animal communication so I watched avidly. The lady was Amelia Kinkade, http://www.ameliakinkade.com/ an American animal communcator who is highly accomplished in this field. She was just amazing and the host had invited her to his home where she had talked to his 3 dogs. She was spot on with each dogs foibles and quirks that he was amazed, and pleasantly shocked!
Later when I got home I searched on the web and found out that she would be holding a workshop in Scotland in a few months so I promptly booked myself on it. It was a full days communication workshop with a lot of animal guests that our group of 30 bombarded with telepathic questions!! Not one furry friend blinked an eyelid in this melee and the majority of people managed to communicate successfully, their answers were confirmed and their notebooks filled.

I highly recommend going on her course if you ever get the chance. I read her book first 'Straight From the Horses Mouth' http://www.ameliakinkade.com/fromhorsesmouth and found it amazing and fascinating. Never again would I presume that the spoken word is reserved only for homo sapiens ears, regardless of 'complexity'. As soon as I read the book I started to talk all the time with Zai - my first rescue rabbit http://www.sadtohappystory.blogspot.com/ and that brought about so many changes for the better! Zai would no longer be sitting right at the door as I came home very day, his back to the door in a huff - he would be relaxed and going about his usual things because I had told him exactly how long I would be, what I would be doing and when I would be home! (and I was Never late).

At the workshop one of the first guests we met was a young dog, and we had to ask him what he had had for breakfast. So, in the silence I asked my telepathic question and instantaneously I heard the words 'star-shaped cat food'. My gosh, I thought, that's odd, but I better write it down. Then I sat there wondering what to say when Amelia would ask me. After she had been around the group - chops, biscuits, lamb... she pointed to me and I blurted out 'star-shaped cat food' and the dog's 'owner' said 'hey! he had that for breakfast by mistake this morning' and I thought Wow this works!! There was a gasp in the group and the dog was just sitting there cool as a button!

After the workshop I purchased Amelias CD on Meditations http://www.ameliakinkade.com/cd_english . Every fur friend I come across I treat as an equal - because we all are eh! - all living beings - breathing the same air, drinking the same water, and I always say hello to them! If you love all animals then you should have a look at Amelia's book, it truly is an eye-opener. It is a step up from the excellant Monty Roberts http://www.montyroberts.com/ab_about_monty.html - I read his book years ago. Well worth the read. Did you know that rabbits are like horses too - if you put pressure on a rabbits side then they will push back!
Well, I have been reading a fellow etsy for animals team-mate's blog Dawn of Without Quiltification and I came across a sad story - had tears in my eyes, of a beautiful and needy labrabor called Gutter http://withoutqualification.com/2008/09/05/gutter-senior-lab-with-seizures-needs-donations-and-rescue/#comment-376 .
After having one of his sleeping seizures he actually goes around the house to make sure everyone is still there - and I was wondering if maybe he had been abandoned after a seizure? He has a great need and desire to check that everyone is still there, next to him!! I truly hope he finds a loving forever home. I sent some dollars his way :)
Dawn is doing great work helping many little friends. She also has an etsy shop Fashionsplatter and all sales go to help her rescue http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5276773 and part to another rescue. Her pendants are lovely! and meaningful too http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=11497953

Here are some baby hares that I have made - and now for sale at my etsy shop.
Each hare has their own little story about something unique to them. Their story is printed on recycled paper and presented on the inside of a baby hare tag that comes with them - on their journey to their forever home.

So, if you have your eye on a baby hare, or two...
Uffy is named after one of my lovely cats when I lived in Darwin, Australia. Uffy is from the Maori language. Uffy is a hare who loves exploring and he is already very familiar with his field and the surrounding stream. He has made many friends this way and has secretly watched the mother fox with her young cubs across the stream. Even at his young age he knows he can outrun them all. He stretches his long hind legs daily in his preparations for exploring.

Phyrr comes from the latin classification for Bullfinch - Pyrrhula pyrrhula. Phyrr is very good friends with a young bullfinch born at the same time as him, in the nest above. Phyrr and bullfinch like to play all day long. Their most favourite game of all is hide and seek and every single time Phyrr is tricked by bullfinch. Bullfinch manages to flatten himself like a leaf onto Phyrr’s side and blend in with his fur (apart from his red breast) – it is very hard for Phyrr to see him and usually after 10 minutes bullfinch is exhausted holding his breath and stomach in and falls flat onto the ground!!

This is Sveta. Sveta is from the Russian word 'tsvetok' which means flower. As you can see Sveta has beautiful flowers all over. Sveta is a small quiet little hare who loves to crouch amongst the flowers. She doesn’t mind what type of flower it is, only that during the day it opens and she is concealed by them. In autumn and winter it will be a little harder to find suitable flowers so she is hoping to make it onto a safe shelf by then next to a flowering perennial, perhaps a ponsiettia. She has even been trying out the low branches of fir trees but finds them a bit spiky.

and this is Rosy. Rosy is a very beautiful little hare but she is awfully shy and has an inbuilt suspicion about everything and everyone. She is wary of new acquaintances and takes a long time to get to know someone well. Concurrently her most trusted of all friend is a caterpillar who has just turned into a pupa. So now Rosy has to wait until her friend metamorphosizes and emerges as a butterfly as beautiful as she. Rosy has been feeling rather lonely and talks to the pupa daily, carefully guarding over her little developing friend.

Please meet baby hare Fiedi. Fiedi is Cantonese for 'quick'. Fiedi loves to keep fit by sprinting and swimming. None of the hares are surprised to see him dash around the fields like a streak of lightening but to this day no-one can believe that he also loves to swim like a fish. He makes a daily foray to the quiet river and does 20 lengths – well, widths actually. The fish love to swim beside him as he paddles strongly back and fro. He has been mistaken for an otter by many of the fish until they see his tiny thin tail.

Another lovely Arabella Bag in Big Red Flowers

Another bag, this one donates 10% to the BUAV, an organisation that champions the plight of millions of laboratory animals here in the UK.
http://www.buav.org/
They have a very strict protocol for shops to adhere to to sell their household products that are cruelty free. It is one of the best in the world. They use a rabbit and stars logo and Jude Law has given them his support! The CO OP and Marks and Spencers adhere to this criteria as do the Body Shop. However none of the stores except the CO OP give prominence to the against animal testing and rabbit logo which I think is a pity as it needs to be highlighted.

Did you know that companies that say their products are not tested on animals do not tell you that the ingredients used to make the products actually Have been animal tested! Chanel do this as do many of the big name companies. One more reason to shop on etsy and buy from small but ethical places.
The BUAV produce a small Cruelty Free guide - which can be ordered (free) here
or downloaded from their website about companies which adhere to their ethical policy.
If you feel strongly about the abuse of laboratory animals please consider donating to the BUAV and by purchasing cosmetics and household goods that adhere to the Rabbit Logo criteria - the list of participating companies is in the booklet mentioned above. Every single penny spent in the right, ethical company will make a difference.

Pics of my Arabella bags

I am donating 10% of the sale of this Japanese 'geisha in kimono' bag to The Buckeye House Rabbit Society. I have already donated to them from the sale of another bag and I am delighted to continue to do so.
Please visit their website and meet many of their little residents looking for a forever home.
I am donating 10% of the sale of this Persian inspired bag to The Rabbit and Guinea Pig Welfare
This is the rescue that my little Wesley came from.
It is in Rugby, England, UK and Tracy does a wonderful job there. They are always looking for donations and ofcourse, forever homes for their rabbits and guinea pigs.
Also if you are buying treats and hay for your companions and live in the UK then Sally at Pampered Piggies will donate 10% from Every order if you quote 'Rabbit and Guinea Pig Welfare' when placing your order with her online store. I have purchased all sorts from her and found everything to be just wonderful. (Well, actually, I never personally tried the hay or herb mixes - but Arabella and Wesley devoured them instantly!) At the moment her store is closed until November. http://www.pamperedpiggies.co.uk/

New Art-Accessory Arabella Rabbit bags

I have made some new bags and shall be posting them in my shop over the new few days.
The first to go on is this delightful 'Applique Instructions' bag. Why not use every bit of material in an applique sheet? I bought this superb sheet of North American wild animals from a lady on etsy and I shall be making up some art-accessory bags with wonderful animals on them!
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=14484070
The only thing is - I am so attatched to every bag that I make that it is hard to put them up for sale, but I am motivated by the fact that I donate 10% from the sale of every bag towards a very deserving animal rescue or charity.

The rescue benefitting from this bag is Bobtails Rescue in Surrey, UK http://www.bobtailsrescue.org.uk/index.asp
The do great work with the lucky rabbits and guinea pigs who make it there. Everyone of their special little charges goes to a forever home.

350 Contest - Vote for Me!

I have entered my recycled postcard into the Craftster.org website's 350 Creativity Contest.

This contest is to make people more aware of, and hopefully take positive action towards reducing the amounts of CO2 from a current 380 ppm (parts per million) in the atmosphere to below 350. It was at 280ppm for a long long time and then last century it began to rise.

My entry is of a horse grazing on blades of grass and is titled 'Every Blade of Grass Matters' and reads:

In the bigger picture things are getting worse - in the smaller picture every blade of grass matters - motto - every single being must take responsibility and initiate change. Reduce the ppm to 350 and less!

Vote Here - please choose my entry and hopefully vote for me!

To read more about the impact of CO2 and it's devestating effects on the panet please visit the 350 website here http://www.350.org/

Baby Hare Soft Sculptures coming soon!

I have been designing and making some soft sculptures to put into my shop.

Like my Arabella art-accessory bags it has taken quite a while. My designs always take a while to evolve and usually I have a few 'prototypes' on the go! However I am very excited with my new Baby Hares. I think they are all completely adorable and I will actually find it very hard to part with any of them! I already have a couple that have made themselves completely at home on my armchair.

It has been a small task thinking up names for them all! I will post photos of them soon.
